A circular economy is needed for sustainable development as global populations rise and the demand for resources increases. This needs to be tackled in a cross-discipline approach so that sectors can work together and value is found in wastes for one industry but has use in another. Nutrient recovery through a biomineralisation technique is a step towards circularity in the water and farming industries. We propose that the use of encapsulated to remove and recovery phosphate as struvite will be a revolutionary step towards sustainable farming and a net-zero future whilst meeting water discharge standards

Bringing the Water and Agricultural sector into the circular economy to help achieve a net zero future through innovative, ‘bio-based’ nutrient recovery
