I am a final PhD student at the MMI Biosciences lab at Cardiff Univeristy, investigating the removal of T&O compounds in drinking water treatment works. I am funded by Welsh Water to compare geosmin biodergadation between treatment works - some of which are able to remove geosmin, some of which have to be treated with powdered activated carbon. I am using community analysis sequencing techniques, microcosm and column experiments and whole genome sequencing of known geosmin degraders to try to paint a picture of geosmin removal in welsh drinking water treatment works.
